A 39 mm case may suit someone who wants a different balance from the smaller 36 or later 41. It is not automatically the ideal size for every wrist. Try it properly sized, look at it from a normal viewing distance and check whether it clears the clothes you usually wear.
The 2018 black and white dials
Rolex added black and white dial choices to its Oyster Perpetual range in 2018. Hodinkee's hands-on coverage describes a slightly warm glossy white and a subtle sunburst black.[27] These are useful distinctions when a listing reduces both simply to classic colours.
Inspect the actual dial in ordinary light. Check readability, visible marks and the seller's explanation of originality. What changed when the 41 arrived
The 2020 Oyster Perpetual 41 replaced the 39 at the larger end of the range. It introduced calibre 3230 with an approximately 70-hour reserve, alongside updated dial choices.[61] The later watch therefore differs by more than its nominal diameter.

A watch can leave the catalogue and remain readily available pre-owned. Asking prices can also reflect seller expectations rather than completed transactions. Avoid treating an internet discussion about cult status as a forecast of returns.
If resale matters, compare genuinely similar 114300 examples on dial, condition, documents and bracelet. Include servicing and transaction costs in your budget. Ask what a purchase offer would depend on, not just what similar watches are advertised for.
Inspect the individual example
Check the clasp, bracelet wear, spare links and case profile. Request service records and ask about any polishing or replaced components. A clean case may still have an uncertain mechanical history, while ordinary cosmetic wear can be acceptable when accurately disclosed.
Do not apply the newest Oyster Perpetual's specification to the discontinued 39. The reference and generation should appear clearly on the sale documents. For water use, obtain advice about the watch's current sealing condition rather than relying on its original rating.
